Anyone here switch from qwerty to dvorak?
Discussion
Why should I.
Present rsi and go faster
You know anywhere good that explains the theory behind Dvorak?
It reduces finger movement and thus typing fatigue. Typical letter neighbors are typed with different hands to even out workload between your hands too.
Can confirm that it is easier on the hands even though I've never surpassed my previous qwerty typing speed. But it's not like typing faster makes any difference to me.
Hmm interesting. Iβm pretty proud of my qwerty chopsβ¦ would be hard to start again slow. π
I feel you. It was HARD on me to go from 100+ wpm in qwerty to really slow in both while I was learning dvorak.
But I was focused on the benefits, and that got me through. If I had trained more, I could have gotten my wpm back, but then I graduated college and didn't really need to type as fast anymore at my job and personal life.
Have a look at a vertical mouse and a split/ergonomic keyboards like Dygma raise/defy or ZSA moonlander with a tenting option. Your wrists, lower arms and shoulders will thank you. They avoid the horizontal (flat) position of your hands which often is what causes wrist pain.
I switched to Colmak, Qwerty is hard to type with now lol
Using Kedmanee
Only wizards use Dvorak.
Bet it's the same ppl with split ergo keebs...
I tried it for a time years ago. My girlfriend was not amused.
I did many years back. Couldn't touch type qwerty ever since, but the grass is greener on this side.
I did in college, but I didn't change my keycaps. It was hilarious watching other people try to type on my computer.
After I got around to changing my keycaps I switched back because it was annoying to use other computers.
But I never switched the keycaps back, watching people try to hunt and peck dvorak on a querty was the funniest thing of all.
I thought about it but I switch keebs from time to time and use the ones at work so ended up at not worth it
Legend
π― I did this!!!
I have since gone back. Canβt work in IT (or touch any computer but my own) without typos and annoyance.
It was a good experience. I wish everything was Dvorak. But we live in a QWERTY world.
Why not Colemak?
