I used mysudo for a long time. Good company but I did run into a lot of services that wouldn't take a generated number from them. For my spam trap I actually signed up for a burner google account and then made a google voice account. This is the number I give when they want me to sign up for something or get texted when my table is ready. You didn't say what the purpose is but you can 2FA a fake google account.

I have heard some people use google voice for some of what I want. Phone 2fa and a number behind their signal account only.

I'd like to also protect the number I use for texting normies who won't get on encrypted comms. I don't want to give google all those messages and calls to do it.

I use signal for all my communications with my friends and family. SimpleX with people I don't know that well. Google voice number for spam trap. My actual phone number i don't use for anything. I have it set to silent and never look at it.

I used to stress out and try to juggle numbers and communication paths for normies and then one day I had enough. I let everyone know that if you want to contact me then you have to go through signal. That I will not be checking any other numbers and you will not get a response from me.

Most people were surprisingly adaptive

Sadly, still using my phone for fiat mine stuff.

Jealous that you can do that everywhere. I did it to the grandparents. "My wife and I will no longer be sending any pics or information about our kids over unencrypted methods. Get on signal or go without"
