With its comprehensive features, Signal's encrypted messaging service is unmatched in protecting your privacy. Here are some tips to help you better secure your communications.

Known for its transparency, but also for its independence, the instant messaging service Signal has convinced more than 70 million users. Recommended by whistleblower Edward Snowden, it offers many features aimed at protecting privacy. Its developers have recently improved video calls within this service.

Want to optimize your use of this application? Discover now 5 essential features to secure your calls and messages.

1. Hide your IP address

It is possible to hide your IP address by using the Signal server as a relay for your calls. To do this, launch the application and click on your profile icon, visible at the top left of the screen. Then go to “Privacy”, then “Advanced settings” and activate the option “Always relay calls”.

Please note that the quality of your calls may decrease when using this option.

2. Enable Private Keyboard

Signal offers an incognito keyboard feature that blocks word learning while the app is running. To take advantage of it, click on your profile icon again, go to the "Privacy" section and enable the "Incognito keyboard" option, visible in the "App security" section.

3. Prevent screenshots

Did you know that you can prevent your interlocutors from taking screenshots of your conversations? Go back to your settings, in the "Privacy" submenu and activate the "Screen security" option present in the "App security" subsection.

4. Remove read receipts

Don't want other users to know if you've read their messages or if you're typing on your keyboard to reply to them? To do this, still in the "Privacy" menu, activate the "Read confirmations" and "Typing indicators" options in the "Messaging" subsection.

5. Make messages and images disappear

Want to share single-view visuals? When sending an image, click the infinity sign next to the send button to enable this option. You will then see the icon change to the number 1.

You can also send disappearing messages from Signal by going back to the “Privacy” section of your settings. Here, go to the “Disappearing Messages” section and click on “Disappearing Time.” Choose from the suggested durations and press the “Save” button to save your preferences.
