I reapplied thermal paste to my bitaxe and I guess the thermal paste I had was junk because it's hotter now than it was before. I ordered some good thermal paste now so I'll deal with it for a few days.

You sure you got good coverage with no air gaps? Thermal paste is the devil and never goes where you want it. I usually end up with more on me than the chip. Cleaning and reapplying couldn't hurt
