Why is it impossible to convince someone about the merits of ₿itcoin with logic alone?

The use of money is so personal that it illicits an emotional response.

Because most people are illogical?

For most, money is highly emotional.

Decades of brainwashing, unfortunately

Unfortunately here in my country people doesn’t trust in #bitcoin and its volatility, they don’t have money to risk, and they see #BTC as a risky investment asset (or a scam), they prefer to buy dollars as a store of value, invest in a fixed term deposit (>150% APY), or buy long-term goods to try to lose less.

Paradigm shifts require someone to be open if they are not open then it’s pointless. Try convincing a flat earth er the world is a sphere.

I’d say some people can be convinced with logic only. Most people employ the heuristic of rejecting stuff that violates their concept of the world. It works great most of the time. Bitcoin violates their concept of fiat money as good money.

Maybe they see the merits and dont care about them?

Logic is driven by emotion, it is merely a tool to most efficiently get the desired results, but these desires are not dictated by logic.

Some people do not value what Bitcoin helps achieve, or they value other things more.

From a neurophysical viewpoint, if you were to disconnect the prefrontal cortex from other emotional regions of the brain you would find it almost impossible to make a decision on just about anything. This happened to a lady already, as highlighted by Dr. David Eagleman's The Brain documentary.

Spot on!

It means admitting your understanding of the world and money has been wrong, which is emotionally painful for most, (all learning involves the pain of being wrong), and also knowing they had heard about bitcoin years ago but didn’t do the work to understand it means there is pain of lost opportunity and that’s a hard thing to accept. Had they done the work to understand it earlier, they could have retired by now.
