The nice thing is that I hated Gen 4 onwards so I don't even care about the pokedex beyond 386. Really looking forward to just enjoying that cut off point. I just want to fuck up Blue's shit with a Tyranitar and a Milotic.

Didn't even consider that but it would be a cool addition to allow you to upgrade normal versions into shiny through some kind of gameplay element.

I did it through action replay : ) Go to badges section press R+A encounters always shiny on!

L+A encounters always shiny off that was my system. Go red gyrados!
