Privacy concerns are just a convenient talking point when politics are on the line. Progressives are only for peace/privacy in a context where there is opportunity to conflate conservatives with war/surveillance. When Republicans want to have a peace and civil liberties discussion, it is an opportunity to smear transgressors who would dare talk to them.
