Conspiracy theory:
David Sachs, Peter Thiel, etc. encouraged a run on the banks, and then encouraged a bailout, to force a pause so they could unload AND Balaji's Bitcoin bet is just a second scene in the same performance.

I mean, it sounds easy enough. It was a community where everyone knows everyone and these tech founders were all funded by vcs like them.
