When you #homestead, you start taking resources very seriously.

This morning I cleaned all the gutters because rain was forecast.

So far today, 4mm has dropped which is the most we've had in nearly 6 months.

500m² of roof area means we capture 500L for every 1mm of rain.

The dam will recover significantly and be a large store of water for our gardens and animals.

The vast majority of grass roots are still in tact, so much of our pasture should green up again with some consistent rain, which will keep our animals fed.

When you're underprepared, you can spend huge amounts on water.

When you're prepared, it's free.

Glad that you have had some decent rain this time! Not as much here but should still help to green things up a bit.

The other thing I watch for after a long dry spell is all the fine dust & plant debris on your roof gets washed down.

It'll clog the strainer on the inlet to the tank & then overflow.

I've run out in the pouring rain to climb the ladder to dump the strainer so many times. The overflowing water drenches you until you can get your hand in to allow the water to drain.

🤣

Haha spent Wednesday arvo doing the exact same thing! We ended up with just under 7mm, it was a welcome change but nowhere near enough!
