In Argentina, we have a tax called RG 4815: a 35% surcharge on any foreign purchase — like buying in USD, paying for services abroad, or using your card while traveling.

It’s not a final tax. It’s a “just in case” advance for income or wealth taxes.

If you don’t actually owe those taxes, you can ask for a refund the following year and wait months for it to (maybe) arrive.

Basically: they take it now, you figure it out later.
