Knowing what we know today and how fast exploration technology is advancing, this seems to be less plausible....
The ocean floor haven't been explored yet and chances is packed with gold and other precious metals is... Let's say, quite high not to say 100% certain
Add to that the fact that in a non distant future we will be able to mine the asteroid belt for gold and other minerals and there you have it, not a scarce precious mineral any more and therefore not an appealing hedge or money...
... move over boomer, it's the era of Bitcoin
I would bet they will push for a Gold Exchange Standard. Not true hard money, which will lead to the same place as before: Over printing, then refusing to honor their gold commitments "temporarily", putting everyone back on the same fiat rollercoaster.
The lesson that needs to be pushed with Bitcoin is that people can not trust those with that much power I've money supply to be faithful actors. Bitcoin fixes gold's salability across space problem, and all the associated evils that come with it.
When someone brings up gold. I always laugh and tell them: Sure you just have to trust big banks and government, I'm sure they've learned their lesson this time.
