The various flavours of federal agents were shown to have acted illegally and unlawfully, and these claims - *especially* the one relating to having hired people to commit murder - were completely debunked at trial. Vanity Fair, along with many other outlets at the time were happy to make coin out of the allegations, but funnily enough, didn't then follow up with clarifications from what emerged from the trial. A sad travesty.
