Reminder: Zaps are our killer feature for two reasons:

1) We reward valuable content with valuable satoshis.

2) They are a fun and frictionless way to introduce someone to the Lightning network.

The shitposts and insane zapping are just as important as the long form interesting content. Both serve a unique purpose and has their place here on Nostr.

i don't believe we've seen a business here taking advantage of this though. when we do, we'll probably also see algorithms being built into clients to show content with higher zap values. ugh. i don't know if we want that.

Hopefully it's just an optional feature but good news is client competition will be merciless so any client that chooses to add BS alogrithms will just be ditched by users who favor a more unbiased experience.

I've been testing that out recently. Everytime I follow someone new I send them a 100 sat tip with a message 'Followed - BTC Fiend' figuring if a user sees that note attached to their tip, they might be so inclined to follow me back. I imagine this type of 'guerilla marketing' could also be used in the advertising space.
