This massive dock needs deck boards

But which direction?

1000 sat zap bounty to images of my two options 👇

What do you think will look better? Long boards horizontal that will have breaks. (16 foot length trex decking that will have to be cut and staggered), or all width ways (10 foot length which is the width of the dock) all the same length with no staggering.

My thoughts are;

if I cut all the baords width ways we can keep the 6 foot cut offs for another project and/or the extension floating dock into the water.

But what will look better?

Is there a pleb out there that is able to generate a few images of my options so I can show my father and discuss? 🤔

Thanks in advance.

Yeah I think from an aesthetic standpoint fastening the boards perpendicular to the long span is preferable and also makes the structure stronger (though you’ve got plenty of blocking).

Also a good point about the 6’ off cuts which are more useful than shorter off cuts.

Agreed

To clarify. You mean run 10' length the whole way?

What are the dimension of the structure?

Yeah I would lay the boards so that the 10’ lengths are perpendicular to the 32’ section. It will add strength and I believe look better too.

I think so now too. Thanks for your input 👊

I think you have to got longways with the way it is framed. Trex is supposed to be supported every 16".

The braces are at 16". Well it all will be. Still need to install the bracing so I needed room for working at the crossers ends. Its Built in such a way for future heavy load uses.

Need to install the brackets still

What the hell are you planning to put on there? No kill like overkill right?

The simplest reason to run the boards width-ways (10-foot lengths) is:

Cleaner Look: You get a perfectly seamless walking surface with no messy staggered joints required along the 32-foot length.

Smarter Installation: It's easier and faster to install, as every board is the same 10-foot length.

Maximum Value: You get highly usable 6-foot cut-offs from your 16-foot Trex boards for your floating extension, saving you material costs.

It is the most practical and visually clean option for your dock.

I hope this helps...

Amazing. Thank you. Bounty completed 👊

I'm also impressed you guessed the color of my boards

Thanks Sir 😁

Honestly I needed the sats ...so I just had to work something worth it 🤗
