Usually yeah, I think there are rules for playing as a Ranger and a few other things as well
Yes, you play as a trainer, and you have different trainer classes that can do different things
Like an ace trainer gives his pokemon buffs in battle, a researcher can have the ability to create healing items or revive fossils, there are even some trainer classes that let you use moves and battle like a pokemon can
It’s a fun system from the little time I had to mess around with it
