“Buddhism is a way of liberation instead of a religion. And we can see the difference most effectively if we look at Buddhism and Christianity with regard to their different social functions. A religion like Christianity serves the social function of cementing a community together, giving that community its laws, its principles of ethics, and its common objectives. The function of Buddhism, on the other hand, as a way of liberation, is as it were to provide a cure for the inevitable ill effects of making the conventions of a community too strong, making the bonds of a community too strong.”

— Alan Watts, Buddhism and Christianity

Christianity: God is outside of you.

Hinduism: God is inside of you.

Both reflect the backdrop of the energy of the times in which they flourished.

Buddhism: there is no God because everything is God

That’s not entirely accurate. Both religions have teachings around both of these ideas.

Speaking of Christianity you’ve St Teresa of Avila who says:

“I only beg you to test it [by interior recollection], even at the cost of a little trouble. I assure you…you will find Him within you” (see The Way of Perfection, Chapters 28-29).

Then in Hinduism you’ve Bhakti yoga which relates to the indwelling of the divine within, but then you have things regarding Brahman, whose said to be penetrating and filling all things, which is something that St Paul says of Christ with those very words.

Anyways that’s a bit of that.

Cool, thanks for the clarification.

The way I see it, since the external is a reflection of the internal, we are each Brahman reflecting (projecting) ourselves out as the world we live in, so all is Brahman (Self). Most religions probably have similar ideas.

Christianity is about freedom. It's about hope, it's about a relationship. The truth will set you free.

Buddhism says, nothing becomes something and then goes back to nothing. There is no hope, everything is meaningless, everything is cyclical and will keep going in the same circle without ever getting better. It's about emptying oneself to become one with the nothingness of the universe.

Is it though?

Are you talking about nothingness or "no" "thingness"

the connection to the infinite and the dropping of the illusion of separate being

hopeful, empowering, intimidating, and beautiful
