I’m afraid that the merge mining issue can’t easily be solved without adopting an hybrid PoS solution but maybe some smart brains will figure it out. #DarkFi looks promising but pure PoW for a #DeFi blockchain (where fast finality matters) seems a questionable choice. Maybe they are planning to move to PoS at some point.
I think the case for an hybrid PoW/PoS mechanism for #Monero is compelling. You gain fast finality while preserving the decentralized nature of the ledger (pure PoS requires a set of trusted validators to bootstrap the blockchain).
Fast finality matters especially for IRL transactions. That’s probably why Aaron Day chose to go with them for his Point-of-Sales system. That’s a bummer because Zano token distribution is questionable at best.
There is a reason as to why many former PoW blockchains moved to a hybrid model. It seems as if Monero could still remain safe with pure PoW but the #Qubic’s is putting this belief into question.
