Impostor identification idea:

If any two people on nostr dare use the same username with the same picture, it's quite obvious that the user that came later is the impostor.

Of course you don't want your client to check every posts' user to see if there is an older user out there with that Username+Pic by default... That would be a lot of needless requests.

-But how many impostors would go out and get verified by a paid service like NostrVerified or Nostr-check? That would cost sats, so it would be a perfect wast of money.

Therefore, clients could simply do a username+Pic check on all non-verified(paid) accounts. That should put an end to impostors here in a way that OldBirdApp never had.

Not convinced the paywall will fix this, unfortunately.

N00bs and privacy-autists won't have Lightning wallets going, but professional scammers will.

And one successful scam can pay for thousands of verifications.

A randomart pic of the npub underneath the profile pic is my best solution to date, but open to better ones...

There was a human verification project a year or so ago which seems to have dropped off but I reckon that will be the path - meatspace verification in small numbers to form a web of trust.

Would be cool if clients started showing a "on Nostr since 773,424" which would then let us know which account came first.

Great idea in the short term, probably unworkable in the long term with how easy it is to spin up new keys - 1/2/3 years from now accounts created in the past could be switched over to spoof newer entrants so only really works for existing Nostriches

Good point indeed. With the Nostur client it shows a "previously known as" once a user changes their name. Would be nice if there was a historical record stored on relays that could be inspected at a later date. Might help with poaching older keypairs for spoofing dates, if it can be seen that the name change came afterwards.
