When the bicycle was gaining popularity in the late 19th century, it was criticized for encouraging children to spend less time away from books and families. Also, there was concern that young women would be less protected from strange uncouth men, etc.

I’m coming around to the idea that Elon might be a lot more than what I have previously given him credit for. We should be trying to go to Mars, if only to prove that men can still do great things.

On the other hand, I don’t know if I’ll ever get on board with the electric car future, which I perceive as perpetually renting, never fixing, less empowered, more fragile, always connected to the panopticon.
