Regarding #MLKJr

- I appreciate his Letter from Birmingham Jail, for its recognition of the importance of Western Tradition for individual liberty

- I appreciate his fight for civil liberties for all, and his call to judge a person by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin (contra Kendi and the woke)

- I do not appreciate his social gospel approach, applying themes and terms to the state or to society at large that are the exclusive domain of the church (whether militant or triumphant)

- I am aware that the CIA wanted him 'neutralized' for his anti-war stance, even told him to commit suicide

- I am therefore not so sure if the 'degeneracy' and 'communism' we often hear him accused of was 1) manufactured or simply 2) revealed by those forces who wanted him 'neutralized'

And so, as with any public person, I applaud his achievements yet not uncritically.

Enough for the govt to spend $100k to have him assassinated

Didn't know that data point, ty. Knowing this, I'm skeptical of those charges. But, he too is human, and susceptible. So, God only knows the full truth.

I think his communistic leanings were real. I have seen enough evidence of that over the years. If I'm not mistaken, two of his closest allies and speechwriters were also explicitly communist.

And large portions of his Letter were plagerized. Including the bits Christians love to quote.

But did the intelligence agencies kill him? Absolutely.

The guys at Haunted Cosmos got into a lot of the details of his murder in their second MKUltra episode, if you are interested:

Wow, didn't know that. Thank you.

That's certainly on the 'social gospel' trajectory, too.
