Was going to set up an appointment for my dog to be spayed and due to her eating quickly and having gas, they recommend a preventative GDV (stomach flip) procedure as well, due to being a high risk breed and already having issues with gas & bloating. It's always something at the worst possible time. I guess I'll be skipping some meals this month to put away an extra couple thousand.

She's currently alright, it's recommended as a preventative measure. When it happens and requires emergency surgery is when it becomes a big problem. Still, it's a scary thought and worth preventing. I could have it done at a later date but it's best to just have it done while she's spayed vs putting her through another procedure later. She's 3 and fully grown and developed, so time to have her spayed anyways. Not doing that puts them at risk of pyometra. My brothers dog had a liter and developed that after her next heat cycle. Scary stuff.
That sounds terrible 😔 have you tried a snuffle mat or food puzzle ball to make her slow down? My dog really enjoys both.
I've tried numerous matts and slow feeders. It didn't take her long to figure out that she can just flip or knock them over and inhale her food still. Currently I just try to break her meals up into 3 or 4 small ones and try to keep her from getting to wild for a bit after eating. She's a 3 year old APBT, so it's easier said than done. Constantly wants to be on the move and to play.
A smart girl. I had a friend who had a ridic fast eater, a German Shepherd, and she bought an auto feeder and broke it into very small feedings through the day. She also brings the kibble on walks and sprinkles it in the grass like an irl snuffle mat lol
Sucks that surgery might be necessary but I totally get why you would do it.
Leaving this here if anybody wants to help cover some unplanned vet bills. Disgusting that a monthly payment plan isn't an option. Every few years I seem to get one. I think I'm going to start a separate savings just for these situation and add to it yearly every tax season.
