In 1924 George Mallory, a famous British climber disappeared while trying to reach the peak of Mount Everest, his body was found in 1999, in an extremely well-preserved state.

On May 1, 1999, While scaling the north side of Mount Everest in an organized search for George Mallory, American climber, Conrad Anker, came across what he initially believed was a large, flat piece of rock.

To his surprise, he discovered that the “stone” was the back of a man later confirmed to be George Mallory. Most of Mallory’s clothes had been eroded by time, but his body was well-preserved by the freezing conditions of Everest, allowing experts to reconstruct his final moments.

So apparently, judging by the wounds around Mallory's waist, it's speculated that he and his companion Andrew Irvine were tied to each other through a rope and one of them slipped, possibly dragging the other one down too.
