listened to a couple questions asked by mainstream 'journalists' at a whitehouse press conference. no, it wasnt on purpose. as i listened to the questions, i honestly wondered for a second if mainstream journalists could be some of the most stupid people on the planet. not even saying it to be insulting. i actually wonder if something about the culture of that profession produces particularly stupid people even if they didnt start out that way.

Conformists with incentives to comply with power to not feel their psychological weakness. There ate exceptions, though. 99% of journos are pretend freedom/truth fighters.
The field selects for it. Imagine being an independent thinker in that situation. You'd either get booted from the room or go crazy.
I think often of Chris Cuomo's response to Dave Smith in their debate about Covid: "That's what we were told!" He seemed to genuinely think that relaying information that he "was told" was the entirety of his job, and sufficient explanation for his role during covid. He said it without a hint of shame.
