Think of it as network effects of a common language of value rather than fanaticism. Technology is not scarce and can be changed when needed, even though it's hard to convince a large group to change the group can if it's needed.

The UX of the English language is pretty crap. We could probably design a number of better languages that sound like it's written and it's rules are more consistent, and overall sounds nicer to speak, but that doesn't mean anyone will adopt it.
