We’ve been in convoy with the Troopy for the last couple of weeks. But yesterday we got some other visitors too!

Parked up a little over 3000m next to lake Son Kul, a motorbike sidled over.

It was windy and they saw us and thought they come and say hi and take shelter next to the truck for 10minutes before moving on.

The following morning they were still there having pitched their tent. We spent all afternoon chatting about the road and experiences, making food together and eating in the truck out of the way of the passing rain shower and wind.

This is one aspect of overlanding we love - meeting fellow travellers, swapping stories and advice and hints of places to go.

If you had to choose motorbike and tent, Troopy, or our big blue for your overland adventures, what do you pick?

Troopy

It’s a great vehicle and we’re jealous of the mobility and nimbleness.

One day we’ll downsize to one I suspect.

Right now Im just hoping I can get myself into one sometime in the next few years. Right now I've got a stock Delica D5, and everytime we take it out on Safari it comes back needing the suspension repaired.

We love the Delica! So many out here. Planning to be here over winter and may look at renting one for the period to be a bit more mobile.

Can you get a suspension upgrade?

There are suspension upgrades, but it seems like the a lot of the overlanding modifications and upgrades are for the older Delicas like the L300 and L400. My model the D5 has been a bit harder to find upgrades for. Also finding parts has been a challenge in Zambia. Here it is out by the Kafue a few months back.
