Yes it is, I expect more clients will eventually implement https://github.com/mikedilger/gossip so smaller relays are utilised

Running a relay is great to allow you to be sovereign over your own data. You're in charge of your own social graph. No one can rug you. No one can censor you. I recommend that everyone runs their own relay for this purpose. If you want to run a relay that others can connect to, that's fine too. Welcome to Nostr!
