It is hunting season. Most old hunters sit in a wood shack on stilts, with a heater.

Arriving on a 4x4 ATV.

I like to hunt with a heavy single action revolver and slow stalk, walking deep into forest in search of venison and wild boar.

Get exercise for the old bones.

You should hunt out here. Plenty of javelina and it’s not cold!

I love the cold, the snow and the ice.

Thinking of a trip to Lauterbrunnen in November or December. Spend a month or two. Visit MΓΌrren and Wengen.

Germany is lost. I will probably never return.

Northern Arizon is pretty nice. The desert has its charm. The land offers gold, silver and copper for those who like to prospect.

Old history there, and a lot to see. I have a copper nugget and a few small chucks of gold from Pinos Altos NM.

Hunting the javelin would be fun though. Much smaller than the wild pigs here in Louisiana.

Killed a 300 pounder here. Had 4 to 5 inch tusks. Mean hogs here. They kill people.

I have no idea what our javelina weigh, but it can’t be 300 lbs. they are fast! Love northern Arizona. So much magic there, not as cold as other wintery spots…

My last hunt in the national forest, I saw what I thought was a bear. It was 110 measured yards away. I watched and soon realized it was a very big hog. Maybe 700 or 800 lbs. No way I was getting it out of the woods. I waited and some smaller piglets came out. This I can handle, I thought. Shot what I thought was a 100 lbs sow. The pigs came running in all directions. I stood next to a tree, very still, and let them clear the area. The little pig I shot was 300 lbs.

This is not my piggy, but an example of what they look like up close.

A lot of fun, but dangerous game. I have friend who have been attacked by an angry sow. Cut his legs up really bad. He managed to get to a tree and then an emergency room.
