I ran home assistant with ~100 devices in the home. I can say, it was a flawless experience.

My problem is most of my devices are all Google/Nest 😭

I know this is going to blow your mind, but that’s what I switched to. The stability and ease of access/use is unmatched.

I even use Google Wi-Fi Pro. I a ton of money over two years trying residential routers, then got the nest Wi-Fi. I haven’t had to so much as reboot it since.

My next will be Ubiquity, but Nest has been great - evil corporation aside.

I had the last generation Google/Nest WiFi. Ugh. Fuck them 🤣 Google came out with a firmware update that broke mine. For nearly a year I would have to reboot my devices once a week, sometimes several times a week. I finally got a new router last year and I haven't had any issues since switching.

Yeah I think gen 1 had some pretty serious issues. Gen 2 isn’t even compatible with them. Gigabit speeds through most of my house with two units.

I miss some of the flexibility for port forwarding, etc. but my conclusion is self hosting is not something you use for something you need to work 99.999% of the time.

Self-hosted on a dedicated server in a DC is as close as I come now.

Holy shit thank you. I have so many of these. Google kept giving me free ones 🤣

This is super cool, but the idea of trying to keep 8-9 of these running without fail in my house gives me chills and nausea.

Still be a fun af project to do once. Could do the same thing with a way nicer Bluetooth speaker for tunes too.
