In a major internet outage on March 14, 2024, Nigeria experienced disruptions due to damage to submarine cables near Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire. The affected cables include the West Cable System (WACS), the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), MainOne, and SAT3. The outage impacted over a dozen countries, including Liberia, Benin, Ghana, Burkina Faso, the Gambia, Guinea, Namibia, Lesotho, and South Africa. MainOne, an African provider of digital infrastructure services, stated that the damage resulted from an 'external incident' and may have been caused by seismic activity on the seabed .
