Our first time in the Philippines! 🇵🇠Our first day was packed with action. Driving from the airport to Manila, my first impression was that it felt a lot like Brazil 🇧🇷 and honestly, the city didn’t feel very safe.
We had a day trip planned before heading to our next destination, Bohol, so we left the airport for a few hours. When we returned to collect our bags and catch our next flight, we almost got scammed. I went to the police for help, but instead of assisting us, they led us to a group of people who surrounded us and tried to pressure us into thinking we’d miss our flight if we didn’t take their car to the next terminal.
It might not sound like a big deal, but in the moment, it was intense! 🙈😂 There was actually a free shuttle to the other terminal, but they tried to charge us $50 for it.
If we hadn’t left the airport earlier for our quick trip into the city, we probably would have fallen for it. I travel a lot, but the Philippines feels different. I didn’t realize that almost everyone here speaks English, and the level of poverty is shocking…
And the food… 🫣 That’s going to be my biggest challenge on this trip! 😂
