I use LEDs. No problems (starting my 2nd winter) and it's on a 150' extension cord with the heater for their water too.

You're in a colder climate than me based on all that snow! I've got a mix of less than 1 year old birds and 2 year old birds. So, the young ones stayed laying, so the lights are only for the old girls.
Yeah. I’m in Iowa. I have 6 birds all born in February. Only getting 2-3 a day. Hopefully a little light will increase the production some.
