β€”Question#3

If we all know the magician hides the card up his sleeve, why do we keep applauding the trick?

Because the illusion of choice is more comfortable than the reality of having no control.

Modern democracy relies on an illusion: voting as an act of power. Even though most people know the system is rigged, they keep participating because abandoning the charade would mean facing their own powerlessness.

Reclaiming rulership over our own societies would also require hard work and hard thinking and hard choices, and our people have become accustomed to softness. In addition, making those hard but necessary choices would require abandonment of many of the absurd "cherished beliefs" of this age.
