San Diego’s public transport wing MTS have been cutting back hard on bus service. Pictured is an example of the new 20 minute wait times for one bus that goes through the heart of the metropolitan area.

Twenty f**king minutes?!!!

MTS desperately wants to onboard new ridership, but have undermined their effort with service cutbacks.

No one with a car is going to wait that long. People of lesser means will suffer extra. They have no choice.

I spoke with MTS customer service about this issue. They said someone from Planning would call me back.

Yeah, right.

Except they did. I was super appreciative they called, and for informing me the reason for the bus cutbacks: driver shortage.

I still wonder why the MTS can’t redirect drivers from lesser-used routes. The network is huge, and I know from experience bus routes on the fringes can be sparsely populated.

At the same time most of the new housing development/infill has reduced to little parking requirements with the expectation that more people will be riding public transit. Not exactly the best way to encourage more ridership
