Never tried it, is it Android with no Apps?
It's android with most of the apps you want. It's like a super hardened version of Android. But it has its draw backs not using any google services
How does that brick the Ux?
Just lots of random stuff doesn't work properly, phone can get annoying and frustrating to use.
I've been on it for two years and seems to be worse right now.
Are you running the Graphime google play services so it restricted like an app?

I would be fascinated if you would reach out and let ne knoe what issues you have? I've been running GrapheneOS since the Pixel 3 release.
The OS has never regressed, the experience has only become better, more flexible, increased app compatibility and so on.
How many of your issues have you addressed in the community portals etc.

Overall I'm happy with Graphine OS. One of the problem apps I have is Office 365 and inTune and as that is my employer managing the apps I'm not surprised its an issue.

believe we'll welcome soft screen very soon,

Never got Graphene working on my Samsung, but had great success with Lineage. Just leave the Google apps package out on installation.
Gained a lot of speed and battery life.
