No, Simplex architecture is very similar to Nostr, it is decentralized but not distributed.

The groups are in principle unlimited.

It is not very big at the moment, about 20 official servers and I only know about 5 independent servers, but it is very easy to set up your own server.

It is also true that if you set up your own simplex server it is not published anywhere, it is only indicated in your contact address so it is very difficult if not impossible to know how many SimpleX servers there are.
