I’ve never exactly wanted a federal government but this Helene situation is beyond the pale. Total failure and corruption all the way down. A literal net negative that just can’t be accepted in a sane society.

The government can be a lot like an operating system, do you really want it to do everything and operate with bloatware?

Is this a national problem or state?

In order to reform a government one must go through some growing pains. If they want to relinquish the federal government as the caretaker one must assume responsibility.

It is a state problem and how should they respond? The governors of those states need to act on the behalf of their citizens. Who should they call when the shit hits the fan?

Do you trust FEMA or the military?

It appears to me that the people doing the most are volunteers and good hearted citizens. As far as I can tell, the state and FEMA have done nothing. Like all of these issues, I don’t think a centralized authority can handle this stuff. They, by nature, are incapable of addressing the situation. Ideally, volunteer charities with funding from communities would step in and support grassroots, on the ground mobilization.

The states first needs to declare a state emergency and call on the citizen militia, sometimes called Minutemen. Place them on Title 32 orders and then contact other surrounding states to request there Guardsmen. It is a state activation not a national activation.

If they actually did anything, that would be great.

Remember when they said President Trump didn't request Guard troops for 6 Jan? They might be accused of the same if they do not act. They took an Oath.

Not holding my breath.
