This is how it works everywhere. Minority of hate and troll being magnified by crafty dudes and algos. Nostr is pretty much The Internet in a “zip file”.
Normal people are reluctant to repost, so reposts are considered meaningful. So these people repost everything to death.
They having fun by triggering normal people. If I like something, poof 10 hours gone trying to master one damn thing. For some people making people angry on internet is as much fun as video games or coding for others.
Sometimes I feel like every single man alive is autistic about something, not every man found that thing yet.

I don't really care if they post garbage, since it doesn't show up in my feed, but having these universal trendlists so prominently placed in some clients is a bug, not a feature, as it can leave an awful first impression about what the majority of the people here are actually like.
