A Shenyang J-15 crashed today in China during a training exercise. The J-15 is a naval fighter jet developed based on the prototype of the Sukhoi Su-33, which was acquired from Ukraine in 2001.

A Chinese J-15 Carrier-Based Multirole Fighter with the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN), believed to have launched from a nearby aircraft carrier during a training exercise, crashed earlier today within Lingao County on Hainan Island in the South China Sea. The pilot was able to successfully eject, before being rescued by local residents; with the crash not reported to have caused any significant damage or casualties on the ground. Videos and pictures of the incident have quickly been removed from most Chinese social media.
