This presents a list, in rough order that you must learn technologies, to become & remain free.

Operating Systems

1. #Linux: newbies: ubuntu.com; getfedora.org; linuxmint.com advanced: debian.org

2. #BSD; ghostbsd.org; freebsd.org; openbsd.org (Berkley Software Distribution; BSD).

3. Specialist - Anonymity/Privacy (Linux); a) tails.net; b) whonix.org

4. Specialist – Security; a) qubes-os.org; b) kicksecure.com (Debian-based);.

Beginner: start with any one from 1 above if you’re on Windows still (and dump Windows asap).

Once you have learned to install and configure Linux. Learn KVM tech (see below). Intermediate:

place inside a KVM instance tails or whonix in which to surf the more dangerous parts of the web.

Advanced: Qubes as bare-metal install; kicksecure & whonix as KVM instances + others etc. ;)

Important; when you first install any operating system install secure; forensically wipe the disc(s)

during installation AND ENCRYPT the disk array(s) with FULL DISK ENCRYPTION. Secure. :)
