When I moved to Missouri, I needed to buy a TV. The box didn't fit into my car backseat. Some stranger with a pickup in the Best Buy parking lot walked up to me, said "Take my drivers license, and when we get back to your place, hand it back." I was too young to understand all the ways this transaction could have gone wrong, but that day, the Midwest taught me something about integrity and trust.
