You ask what is the largest post that can be made on nostr?

The protocol does not specify a size limit but relays do. My relay does. I limit it with

if len(jsonb) > 10000 {

return false

}

So no more than 10000 characters.

I disagree with your sentiment. You never really talked about the solutions Nostr really solves. And that is decentralized identities and a very easy protocol to program against. And how decentralized identities has the potential to fix a lot of censorship problems. Peer to peer can still be facilitated over nostr. And nostr was really created in response to scuttlebutt not working well. The problem with peer to peer is discovery and you can use nostr as a intermediate to help with that. For example, you can create a ip tag and you post your current ip address to all your relays so people who are tormenting your latest data know where to look for your current position by scanning popular relays for your new ip. Essentially using the nostr network to further decentralize. And because it's so easy to program Against the nostr protocol we are seeing very rapid development. It took much longer for the fediverse to get where nostr is now.

We just need better topic specific UI's for folks like you and me. Yes there will always be a few popular relays and very few people using smaller relays but unlike the fediverse large relays will not crush small relays. Lemmy world basically runs on like 1,000$ per month hardware. So if it's federating with 40$ per month hardware it can bring down that 40$ per month instance. So it will be easier for people tired with large relays to branch off and slowly grow.

As far as free speech goes, i'm not super interested in forcing people to read others saying nigger, faggot, "insert jew joke". (I stand with Israel, blm, don't cancel me) People want networks that censor the way they like. Some people like the chaos, other's like safe spaces. I like that nostr makes it easy to switch without changing your identity.

All that said, it's early days so a year or two and we should see what has became of it and if anything better comes out. For a programmer it's really fun to program against nostr btw.

I'm not the author of that article btw.

Is this a joke? It's hard for me to tell.
