This reminds me of how all cultivated apples represent a vanishingly tiny fraction of the genetic range of the world apple population. In their native region, apples are incredibly diverse, with unusual (including unusually delicious) flavors, colors, and more.

What we think an apple is is based on convention, and only one small window into what an apple can be.

It’s great that you’re not afraid to open the window of what wine can be!

I very much understand that, as I've always wanted to create a germplasm botanical garden. I live in an 18-acre, off-grid intentional community on the far East side of the Big Island, Hawai'i, and as wild as it sounds, creating and maintaining gardens here is very challenging indeed.
