Way out of my lane here, but China seems to contradict your thesis - the average Wei’s circumstances certainly improved from 1980 or so to present no?
The only reason that socialism appears to work for any length of time is because it's riding on the back of capitalism. The only reason that socialism works is because it has capitalism to support it. And once that socialism verges into full blown communism, totalitarianism, it quickly becomes apparent that it doesn't.
There are no communist countries that have become more prosperous because of communism. Communism has not made one single country more prosperous. It's never happened.
Capitalism has made the entire world more prosperous. Capitalism has allowed for some countries to operate under some guise of socialism for at least a little while. But communism always ends in death. It always ends in destruction.

Because they opened up special economic zones and allowed pseudo-privately owned businesses. Essentially they allowed capitalism in and it changed everything for them.
Thanks for clearing it up!
Def not communist.😏😉😏😉
I witnessed an interesting form of capitalism - the unfolding of the “Chinese Dream” in the 12 years I lived there. The atmosphere in China of optimism, betterment, progression etc reminded me of what I felt when I first arrived in California from overseas in the 60s. People there were realizing the “American Dream” How ironic.😏
