I think this is retarded, but before I say it’s retarded, can I ask why bitcoin and nostr are the filter?

When centralized platforms offer less than decentralized ones, people simply move over and there’s nothing the centralized side can really do to stop it. In that way, decentralized systems act like an anchor. Centralized systems can shift around a bit, but only as far as the chain allows, while the decentralized anchor keeps the whole space relatively honest.
