About the young women with colorful hair, nose rings, and vocal fry, I didn’t necessarily mean it because they’re gender non-conforming; it’s just because they look like trend followers. However, I suppose it’s largely one in the same thing.
That’s a good point about women of our older generations having long been gender non-conforming. I would have been wearing the same badges you were. However, even my conservative Christian grandmother had short hair and wore slacks! It was once completely normal. It took Millennials and Gen Z to suddenly think that “woman” = lipstick + high heels.
