I may have stumbled upon a massive Amazon scam… or it could be a one time thing ….
So, I returned an unopened item but got refunded for only half the amount. Reason stated damaged item. Reached out to support (but got the feeling it’s a third party refund processor). Told them there’s no way it was damaged by me. Only damaged en route or there’s some scam going on by RMA processor. I asked for the details of who handles the refund process and the dude quickly changed subject and shut down my line of inquiry. 🧐
I got sus quickly. Now I’m thinking, this is not a one time thing and other people are getting ripped off as well. Lucky for me I got the full refund but I think this is only due to me stating it was unopened. Had I said I opened it, there’s no way for me to prove I didn’t damage it. Most people will probably open their stuff …
The other option is that the delivery company damaged it - but I kind of doubt it. They are pretty good about this stuff here in Japan. I’ve never had any damaged deliveries, ever.
This is a type of thing I’d be looking into if I was an investigative journalist.
