When I post process black and white photos, I look at the histogram, and try to get some deep blacks.
Meaning the histogram will have some of its curve touching the left side of the chart. It gives deeper blacks. And widens the range between deep blacks and bright white.
I love this trick. 
Thanks you sir for the advice, I really never use the histogram for editing, I will keep it in mind
