No, Amethyst doesn't run on background. I have checked the source code, it closes any websocket connection when apps go into background. It is mainly foreground usage.
Oh is it? But the app does show some background usage on mine though :/ weird.

Probably some leftover data before connection fully closed. Small compared to foreground data.
