There’s still a lot of confusion out in the world about #nostr being a protocol, not a platform.

Moderation is pushed to the users and individual service providers as opposed to outsourcing it to machines and burned-out employees sitting in nondescript office parks around the world.

We’ve seen time and time again how no amount of content moderation can possibly make everyone happy, and users get disillusioned and angry because platform developers and management can’t simply “do more.”

Can we ban people we don’t like from using TCP/IP? No, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use it ourselves, and build layers of technology on top of it to create the world we want to see.

What are “individual service providers”?

I used that term to encompass relays and NIP-05 identification services. Whether they do it for free or charge a fee, it’s still a service being provided on top of the protocol.
