What's something you've bought using bitcoin that gave you no regrets? I'll go first.

In 2017, I paid 6,000,000 sats ($500 at the time) for this painting from a street artist. I absolutely love it, and knowing what that amount of bitcoin is worth now makes it even more valuable to me. 💜🪬

That is really beautiful! Love it! 😍

Is that a Hamsa?

Yes! It’s one of his signature pieces. I wish the artist hadn’t taken the NFT route over the past few years, but you can’t win ‘em all.

Can’t win them all but that’s a nice piece!

Street artist accepted BTC? That’s the best part of this story although the painting is absolute 🔥 🔥 🔥

Yes, but then he became an NFT guy a couple of years ago and I hope that wasn’t his gateway drug.

This story has it all. The hero becomes the villain. Now I’m not so sure about the painting:).

I’ve bought the Bitcoin Standard, which was a let down..

Saifedean’s take on modern art and architecture is just garbage IMHO. I highly recommend skipping that chapter to anyone who hasn’t read the book yet.

Lol, I literally stopped reading there

Def agree - I was reading and had to check the cover cause it was like all of a sudden we’re getting a critique of modern art 🖼️- which btw maybe IS a scam, but…. At least it’s a hard asset that requires SOME work and effort to create and maintain - unlike green paper that’s based on nothing

Terrible book and you either live the Bitcoin standard or you don't. You don't need to read about it. It's a way of life and doesn't need much explaining.

I’d like to sell my own art for sats, though we lack a proper platform for it. My work if you’re interested: https://instagram.com/v.genugten.art?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Beautiful work, I love how you use light. We need to build a Nostr-powered art gallery where physical pieces can be purchased with zaps!

Thanks, I’ve tried to build similar things in the past, but it’s hard to get it off the ground by yourself

I've never regret spending BTC in all the years. If you live on BTC you literally have to spend it so there is no regrets at all. Though, I bought a PC in 2015 in BTC and when I looked at the box in 2018 I was like... most expensive shitty and aged rig in the world 😂

Computers and cars are not good investments. 😁

Depends.

As a dev, a higher quality computer can make you more productive with increased compile times, etc.

I agree on the cars. I make my living mostly online so my hardware are my trade tools but yes, value loss is immense.

Fun fact, I stopped following the GPU arms race two years ago at least for gaming. Joined GeforceNow's cloud gaming very early and had a founders plan for 5/month for almost a year and a half. That's $90 in 18 months which makes it hard justifying spending $500-1200 every 2-3 years just to be able to play new gen games when they come out. Unless you're GPU miner I don't see the point any more in buying expensive GPU's at least not every couple of years.

My Android is also 4 years old. It's just a phone why would I buy a new one every year while this one is still working fine?
